Hello clay friends 💕

I’m Jayne the human behind CrapClayMakes.

I make slightly wonky ceramics because perfect is boring.

I make slightly wonky clay things full of personality (and the occasional attitude). Working from my studio in Scarborough, I create handmade pottery and ceramics that celebrate imperfection, character, and individuality. Every piece is shaped, glazed, and finished by hand, which means no two items are ever exactly the same and that’s exactly the point.

What started as simply messing around with clay quickly turned into a full creative experiment of “let’s see what happens.” Somewhere along the way, it became a bit of a habit to make at least three of everything, testing forms, glazes, and textures until each piece feels just right (or just the right amount of wrong).

I love pieces that feel a bit imperfect and don’t quite follow the rules, decorative pieces that seem to have their own little personalities. I’m drawn to ceramics that feel alive objects that look like they’ve got stories, quirks, and tiny inner worlds of their own.

Based in Scarborough on the Yorkshire coast, my pottery is inspired by the textures, colours, and unpredictability of the natural surroundings windswept shapes, uneven surfaces, and the beauty of things that aren’t too polished. This influence shows up in every ceramic piece I create.

If you’re looking for handmade pottery in Scarborough or unique ceramics that stand out from mass-produced pieces, you’re in the right place. These are pieces that embrace wonkiness, celebrate imperfection, and bring a bit of personality into everyday life.
